English poet of the Victorian era. Her works deal with a variety of subjects including slavery and women's rights. Her best known work is the collection of love poems Sonnets from the Portuguese of which Sonnet 43 (How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.) is her best known. 
She married the poet Robert Browning in secret, owing to her father's objections and her ill health, and the couple moved to Italy, where they remained until her death.
